Guy Midgley arrives in Germany on a Humboldt research award, hosted by the University of Bayreuth

We are very happy to announce that EMSAfrica’s South African lead, Prof Guy Midgley from Stellenbosch University, has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Guy arrived in Germany on the 28th of November, and his research stay will be mainly hosted by Steven Higgins at the University of Bayreuth, as well as Thomas Hickler and Simon Scheiter at the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (SBik-F) and Goethe University Frankfurt.

The new funding will make it possible to further develop the research collaborations initiated under EMSAfrica and earlier projects. Guy has a crucial role especially in our work dealing with vegetation modelling, biome shifts, and land-atmosphere carbon exchange.

We are very much looking forward to hosting Guy on this and future visits!
